Mom, child (7 months) among 3 dead in Sirajganj road mishap

Sirajganj, June 15 - Three people including a woman and her minor daughter were killed and three others injured as a speeding bus hit an autorickshaw carrying them in Salanga upazila of Sirajganj on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Chan Banu, 50, of Ullahpara in Sirajganj district and Joly Akter, 25, and her seven-month-old daughter Nihal of Sadar upazila in the same district.

The identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

Kabir, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred around 8 am when the Hatikumrul-bound bus rammed the CNG-run autorickshaw coming from opposite direction in front of Phuljhora Degree College at the west end of Bangabandhu Bridge, leaving Chan Banu dead on the spot and five others injured critically.

On information, the injured were rushed to Bongamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital where physicians declared the mother and her daughter dead, the OC said.

The vehicles were seized and a case was also filed in this connection, the OC added. - UNB
