At least five people were killed and 12 others were injured in separate road crashes in Tangail on Friday (July 7).
Of them, three were killed at Rabna on Dhaka-Tangail highway, a woman at Bangabandhu Bridge area and a child at Basail of the district.
Of the deceased, identifies of three were immediately found. They were known as Shah Alam, 40, son of Hazrat Ali of Gopalpur upazila of Tangail, Shahan Shah, 25, son of Hamid Mia and Nurjahan, 45, of Goakora village under Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj. They all were passengers of a pick up van.
Atiqul Islam, in-charge of Tangail General Hospital Police Box, said, “Some 15 people were returning Dhaka from Sirajganj by a pick up van to join their workplaces. A covered van from same direction hit the pick up van when it reached Rabna bypass area of Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday afternoon, leaving 15 passengers injured. They were rescued by locals and whisked off to Tangail General Hospital. There three succumbed to their injuries in the evening.
He further said, “A woman ran over at Bangabandhu Bridge area on the same highway while a child was killed after hitting by a motorcycle at Basail of the distric
