Pabna, Aug 8 --Two children died as a sand pile collapsed on them at Jhaudia village in Pabna's Ishwardi on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Himel Rana, 9, son of Md Ashraful Islam of Blockpara area of the village, and Jihad Hossain, 10, son of Asan Ali of the same area.

According to eyewitnesses, there was a huge pile of sand, illegally lifted from the Padma river, in Blockpara area. Himel and Jihad were playing near the sand pile around 7 pm. Suddenly, the sand pile collapsed on the duo, leaving them seriously injured.

Locals rescued them and took them to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared them dead on arrival.

Hasan Basir, officer-in-charge (OC-Investigation) of Ishwardi police station, said that the bodies were kept at the hospital.

Police are investigating the incident and details will be informed later, added the police official. - UNB
