Local journalist killed in Lalmonirhat road crash

A 45-year-old journalist died after allegedly being run over by a speeding truck in Lalmonirhat's Aditmari Upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Yunus Ali, president of Lalmonirhat Reporters Unity. He was also a Lalmonirhat correspondent of Somoyer Konthosor and Swadesh Pratidin.

Locals said that journalist Yunus Ali was returning to Hatibandha on a motorcycle after covering Jatiya Party's bi-annual conference news.

When he reached the power station area of the upazila, a goods-laden truck (Dhaka Metro T-20-0120) coming from Burimari hit the motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot.

Locals caught the truck and handed it over to the police.

Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque confirmed the accident.

Meanwhile, the colleagues of Yunus Ali, blocked the highway immediately after the accident, demanding justice and assurance of safe roads, suspending the vehicle movement on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway, reports UNB.
