Three teenagers have died after a fire swept through a shack at a slum in Dhaka's Uttara, bdnews24.com reported.

The incident occurred at the Chandalbuk Manik slum sprawling over government-owned land in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the authorities.

Three units of the firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the flames after almost two hours' efforts, according to the Fire Service control room.

The tin-roofed home of Suruj Miah was damaged in the fire.

Firefighters later recovered three bodies from the scene. The victims were identified as Md Jahangir, 19, Ruma Akhter, 17, and 'Afrin', 14.

The authorities suspect that a electric short-circuit sparked the fire.

The bodies have been handed over to Turag police, according to the station's SI Waziur Rahman, the report added.
