The deceased were identified as Harun Ur Rashid, a member of Ward No-5 under Malkhanagar union parishad of Sirajdikhan upazila; and Mahfuzur Rahman Rana, an inhabitant of Dhanmondi area in the capital.

The bodies of a local Union Parishad (UP) member and a trader, who went missing in a trawler capsize incident on Saturday (December 16), were recovered from the Padma River at Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Harun Ur Rashid, a member of Ward No-5 under Malkhanagar union parishad of Sirajdikhan upazila; and Mahfuzur Rahman Rana, an inhabitant of Dhanmondi area in the capital.

Tongibari Police Station officer-in-charge Molla Soyeb Ali confirmed the matter adding that police recovered the bodies from Char Hasail and Chousar areas of the upazila in the morning, three days after the incident.

Earlier on Saturday evening, a sand-laden bulkhead collided head-on with a Hasail-bound trawler, which was returning from a shoala on the river.

Later, three bodies were recovered from the spot and several others went missing.

Being informed, several rescue teams of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) rushed there and rescued the trawler from beneath the river on Sunday afternoon, said Obaidul Karim Khan, Deputy Director of BIWTA.
