Ex-mayor killed in Ctg road crash, 7 injured

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Delwar, 70, who was a former mayor of Ramgarh municipality.



A former municipal mayor was killed and seven others including his wife were injured in a road accident on the Chittagong-Khagrachari highway at Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram district on Friday.

Meanwhile, the identities of the other injured could not be ascertained immediately.

Quoting locals, Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Nurul Alam Ashek said the accident occurred in the morning when a pick-up van collided with a private car on the highway, leaving eight people critically injured.

The injured were first taken to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex where the physicians referred them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Later, Delwar succumbed to his injuries around 3pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.

Legal proceedings were underway in this regard, added the police official.
