Cumilla, Feb 11 -Five people were dead and two were injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla this morning.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately.

Daudkandi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque said the accident happened around 9 am when the speeding covered van crashed into the autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction on Daudkandi-Chandpur regional road in Mahananda area under Mohammadpur union.

The impact of the accident left four people dead on the spot and three others critically injured, he said.

One of the injured died on the way to Gouripur health complex, he said, adding that bodies were taken to the hospital.

The rest injured were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, the OC said, suspecting that the reckless driving of the covered van caused the casualties. - UNB
