Kishoreganj, Mar 24 - Three more bodies were recovered from the Meghna river on Sunday, two days after a trawler capsized in the part of the river flowing through Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district.

The latest additions took the death toll to 6.

The deceased were identified as Anika Akter, 18, daughter of Daru Mia of Narsingdi district, Rupa Dey, 38, wife of Turun Dey of Bhairab municipality area, and Mahmuda, 7, daughter of police constable Sohel Rana.

Local people spotted the floating bodies of the trio at Bhairab Bridge and Pultakanda areas of the river and informed the local firefighting units, who recovered the bodies around 2:30 pm.

On March 22 (Friday), one person died while eight others went missing when a trawler sank in the Meghna River after being hit by a sand-laden bulkhead around 6 pm. Two more deaths were later confirmed before Sunday.

Three people identified as Belon Dey, 38, Sohel Rana, 35, and Sohel’s son Raisul, 5, still remain missing.

Superintendent of Kishoreganj River Police Abdullah Al Mamun said the divers recovered two bodies from the river on Saturday.-UNB
