Mother, daughter killed being hit by pickup van in Pirojpur



Pirojpur, June 24 - A woman and her minor daughter were killed and four others injured as a pickup van ploughed through some people on Bhandaria-Tushkhali-Mathbaria road in Dakshin Ikri village under Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur on Sunday.

The deceased are Jhumaiya Akhtar, 32 and her daughter Hawa, 9.

Details about the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured- Yasin, 5, Maya Begum, 35, Hafiza Akhtar, 28, and Hossain, 32, are now undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Quoting locals, Abir Md Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Bhandaria police station, said Jhumaiya  and her daughter were waiting for a bus in Sahebbari area in Ikri village to go to Chattogram while the other victims went there to see them off.

The pickup van coming from Mathbaria lost control and ploughed into them,  leaving the two dead on the spot and four others injured, he added.

The injured victims were first taken to Bhandaria upazila health complex and later shifted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the OC said.

The vehicle was seized but its driver managed to flee, he added.-UNB
