4 dead in Bagerhat road accident

Four people including a primary school teacher were killed and another was  injured in a collision between a pickup van and a battery-run three-wheeler on Bagerhat-Khulna highway in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district on Monday.

Three of the deceased were identified as Shawkat, 40, Masum, 30, and government primary school teacher Nipa, 28. Details about them could not be known immediately.

Katakhali Highway Police Station’s Sub Inspector (SI) Ashraful Haque said the accident occurred around 9:30am when the Khulna-bound speeding pickup van crashed into the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction in Town Naoapara area of the upazila, leaving three dead on the spot.

The bodies were kept at the police station, he said, adding that the pickup van fled after the accident.

Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex’s Emergency Department Physician Dr Tanvir Islam Anik said though two injured were brought in; one of them succumbed to his injuries on way to Khulna Medical College Hospital, reports UNB.
