Jamaat leader dies as covered van runs over him in Ctg

A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed when a speeding covered van ran over him on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Pantichila area of Sitakunda upazila on Monday morning.


The victim was Anwar Hossain, 42, eldest son of late freedom fighter Ishaq Miah of Muhuri village in Baroiardhala union of the Upazila.

He was the secretary of Baroiardhala Union unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, reports UNB.

The accident occurred this morning when the covered van crashed into the motorbike from behind in Poursad area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, leaving him dead on the spot, said Abdul Hakeem Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumira Highway Police Station.

The covered van evaded capture and sped away shortly after the accident, added the OC.
