A Deputy Secretary of the Education Ministry tragically lost his life in a road accident at Kazirchar Pyadar Hat area in Muladi upazila, Barishal, on Friday afternoon.

The deceased, Mohammad Farhad Hossain, 50, served in the Secondary and Higher Education Division (Private Universities-1) and was a resident of Char Lakshmipur village in Muladi Sadar upazila. His father, Mawlana Abdul Kader, is a well-known figure in the community.

According to Zahurul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Muladi Police Station, Farhad was en route to attend a religious gathering (waaz mahfil) at Nandir Bazar in Char Lakshmipur. After crossing the Mirganj ferry, he boarded a Mahindra vehicle and took a seat beside the driver.

The fatal accident occurred at Pyadar Hat Bazaar when a dog suddenly darted into the road. To avoid hitting the animal, the driver swerved and braked, causing the vehicle to overturn. Farhad was trapped under the vehicle and sustained severe head injuries.

He was immediately rushed to the Muladi Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Two female passengers in the Mahindra also sustained injuries, while the driver fled the scene following the crash, police said.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, Farhad's body was handed over to them without an autopsy, the OC added.
