At least one worker died and six others injured when a boundary wall collapsed on them at Chhotobangram area under Chandrima Police Station in the city Saturday afternoon.
Abdur Raquib, a firefighter of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, told that seven of the injured workers were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where one of them succumbed to his injuries.
Emran Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandrima Police Station, said around 17 workers were constructing a RCC pillar of an under-construction multi-storey building when the wall suddenly collapsed around 3 pm.
Nine of them were working at the same place where the wall collapsed, he added.
One of the labourers Razib Hossain, who escaped unhurt, told BSS that they were working at the construction site when the wall collapsed on them suddenly.
Didarul Islam, assistant director of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense, said they have completed the rescue operation as there is no chance of remaining any other in trapping condition.
He said the deceased was identified as Reazul Islam, 38, while the injured are immediately known as Enamul Haque, 35, Pilip Hossain, 43, Kazem Ali, 27, and Monzur Alam, 35. The wounded were undergoing treatment at RMCH.
