At least four people were killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway today, January 3.

According to highway police, the first incident occurred around 5 a.m. when a bus collided with a truck on the Dhaka-bound lane at the Hasara point, resulting in the deaths of two people.

In the second accident, around 12:30 a.m., a minibus crashed into a covered van on the Mawa-bound lane near Nimtala, leaving two more dead.

The victims from the midnight crash have been identified as Md Jibon, a helper of the Abdullah Paribahan bus, and Md Rayhan, a passenger. Their identities were confirmed by Dr. Camelia Sarkar, a doctor at the emergency department of Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex.

The identities of the two victims in the morning crash remain unknown.

"The bodies have been sent to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex for post-mortem," said Abdul Kader Zilani, Officer-in-Charge of Hasara highway police. "The covered van involved in the second accident has been seized, but the driver managed to flee the scene."

This comes just a week after a tragic accident on December 27, when six people, including women and children, were killed, and four others injured after a bus ran them over at the Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza on the same expressway.
