Truck driver dies in Demra road accident

Dhaka, 24 Jan – A truck driver died, and three others were injured in a collision between a truck and a covered van in Dhaka’s Demra area on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Hridoy, 30, The injured include Sharfin, 60, the truck's helper, and Nazmul, 45, the driver of the covered van, along with his helper, Babu, 23, said Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector Shital Kumar.

The accident happened around 7:30 am in front of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College on Demra-Jatrabari Road.

The truck had stopped after running out of fuel. Driver Hridoy and his helper Sharfin were signalling to other vehicles while waiting behind the truck. Amid dense fog, the covered van rammed into the stationary truck from behind, killing Hridoy on the spot, added the SI.

Fire Service personnel, with the help of locals, rescued the injured and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Hridoy's body has been sent to Mitford Hospital for an autopsy.

Police have seized the covered van, and further legal action is underway.
