5 Killed, One Injured in Jamalpur Truck-Auto Collision

Five people were killed and one injured when a truck collided with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Jamalpur on Thursday evening.


The tragic accident occurred in the Sarishabari upazila of the district around 6:00 PM, according to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Chand Mia of the Sarishabari Police Station.

The victims have been identified as Abdur Razzak, 40; Mahammad Nur Jahangir Alam, 50; Abdur Karim Alal, from Jamalpur's Sadar upazila; Ariful Islam, from Fulbaria upazila in Mymensingh; and Enam Fakir, the son of Amjad Fakir from Naldair village in Sarishabari upazila.

Eyewitnesses report that the auto-rickshaw, carrying five passengers, was traveling towards Madhupur from Jamalpur. As it reached Karogram village, it was struck by a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Four passengers died instantly, and another succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital, OC Mia confirmed.

Amjad Fakir, who survived the crash, was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital with serious injuries.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the hospital for autopsies. Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the scene after the accident, and police are currently working to apprehend him.

The investigation is ongoing.
