Chandpur, Mar 4 - Two Bangladeshi expatriates from Italy have died after their motorcycle collided with a covered van of Pran Group in Chandpur.
The accident occurred in front of Baliak High School in the Puran Bazar area of the town around 10:00pm on Monday, said Officer-in-Charge Md Bahar Mia of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Md Abhi Dewan (18) and Md Niloy Mia (20). According to family sources, both of them lived in Italy with their guardians. Niloy was Abhi’s maternal cousin.
Abhi was the son of Abdus Salam Dewan, and Niloy was the son of Md Selim Hossain from the same area.
According to locals, the two were riding th motorcycle from Puran Bazar to Notun Bazar to buy clothes when the accident happened. They suddenly collided with the covered van, leaving both of them critically injured. Onlookers immediately rescued them and rushed them to the emergency department of Chandpur General Hospital.
Abhi succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. Niloy was referred to Dhaka for further treatment, but he died on the way away near the Wireless Bazar area of Chandpur town, said Dr Md Billal Hossain of the hospital.
The driver of the covered van fled the scene after the accident. However, the vehicle was seized, and the helper is in custody. Legal proceedings are underway, added the OC. - UNB
