Six members of a family, including three women, suffered severe burn injuries after a fire broke out early Sunday in a flat at Shah Bari in Chandpur Sadar upazila, reportedly due to a gas line leakage.

The injured victims include Abdur Rahman, his mother Khadija, wife Shanu, younger son Mahin, elder son Imam Hossain, and his wife Nusrat Niba. Of the six, Rahman and Nusrat are receiving treatment at Chandpur Sadar Hospital, while the remaining four were transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka due to burns covering over 60% of their bodies.

Neighbors Kulsum Begum and her son Jihan, who witnessed the incident, claimed that the explosion occurred when the family was lighting the stove for Sehri, likely triggered by the gas leakage.

House owner Zakir Hossain confirmed that the victims were rushed to the 250-bed General Hospital shortly after the incident. Dr. Hasan Faisal Hossain, an emergency physician at the hospital, noted that four of the critically injured victims had to be referred to a specialized facility in Dhaka due to the severity of their burns.

A team from Chandpur Fire Service and Civil Defense has launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
