32 Killed in Two Separate Bus Crashes in Mexico
At least 32 people were killed in two separate bus crashes in Mexico on Monday, according to authorities.
In Oaxaca state, a bus overturned on a highway, claiming the lives of 18 people. Twelve others were hospitalized with injuries. The accident occurred near the town of Santo Domingo Narro, and officials have announced an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Reports indicate that the victims were supporters of the ruling left-wing party, returning from a rally in Mexico City where President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized US President Donald Trump's trade policies.
Meanwhile, in northern Mexico's Durango state, 14 people died in a fiery crash between a bus and a tractor-trailer. The bus, which was carrying passengers from Texas, was completely engulfed in flames after the collision. Only 10 of the 24 passengers aboard managed to escape.
Deadly road accidents are unfortunately common in Mexico, often attributed to high speeds, poor road conditions, and driver fatigue. Around 15,000 people die annually in road accidents across the country.
Earlier this year, 38 people lost their lives in a crash in Campeche state, further highlighting the ongoing road safety concerns.
