The incident took place around 3:45 pm on the Bogura-Nagarbari Highway, near the East Deluya Bridge in Ullapara Upazila, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rouf of the Hatkumrul Highway Police Station.
The victims were identified as Shariful Islam (35), the autorickshaw driver and son of the late Abdul Aziz from Panchlia Alokdia village, and Abdul Momin (35), a passenger and son of Sanowar Hossain from Dubdanga village, both in the same upazila.
According to the OC, the accident occurred when the autorickshaw, traveling from Hatkumrul to Ullapara, collided head-on with a tank lorry coming from the opposite direction as it reached the East Deluya Bridge. Both Shariful Islam and Abdul Momin died at the scene due to the impact.
The injured were promptly rescued and transported to the hospital. Police arrived at the site, recovered the bodies, and, since there were no formal complaints, handed over the body of driver Shariful Islam to his family.
The body of the deceased passenger, Abdul Momin, has been kept in police custody for an autopsy. Both the damaged lorry and autorickshaw have been seized and are currently held at the police station. A case has been filed in connection with the incident.
