Two people were killed and around 50 others injured when a truck collided with two buses carrying Jamaat-e-Islami members in front of Varendra University, located in the Kharkhari area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city, early Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nasim and Jewel, both of whom were traveling as part of a group on a religious pilgrimage.

The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m., when the two buses, carrying approximately 90 passengers, were en route from Shibganj’s Ranihati Union in Chapainawabganj to Pirojpur. The group was on a visit to pay respects at the grave of late Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, according to Jasim Uddin Sarkar, the former organizational secretary of Rajshahi City Jamaat.

Among the injured, at least 15 people are in critical condition and have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for immediate treatment. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the tragic accident.
