Three people lost their lives and at least 30 others were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj on Thursday night.

The identities of the victims have yet to be confirmed.

According to police, the accident occurred around 9pm in the Fukra area of Kashiani upazila when a Boleshwar Paribahan bus, travelling from Mongla to Chattogram, collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

The collision caused the immediate deaths of the truck driver and two others, while 30 passengers sustained injuries.

Among the injured, 18 were admitted to the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital, and the rest received treatment at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex.

Khandaker Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Kashiani police station, said the accident led to a two-hour traffic jam on the busy highway. Fire service teams and local residents worked to clear the site and restore traffic flow.

To handle the influx of patients, additional medical staff were deployed at Gopalganj General Hospital, reports UNB.
