Gas cylinder blasts

Five members of a family including three children sustained burn injuries in a fire apparently from gas cylinder explosion at their house at Aftabnagar in the capital early Friday.

The injured are Tofazzal Hossain, 45, Munsura Begum, 35, and their three children—Tanzila, 11, Mithila, 7, and Tanisha, 4.

The explosion occurred around 12:20am, said Dr Shaown Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Quoting the victims, he said gas was leaking in the kitchen of their house and the gas cylinder exploded when a family member lit a cigarette.

The extent of their burns will be assessed after initial medical procedures, said Dr Shaown. -UNB
