Noakhali trawler capsize: 3 dead, child still missing

Noakhali, Jun 2 -The body of a police member was recovered two days after he went missing in the Meghna River of Noakhali district as a trawler carrying 39 people capsized in the river on Saturday.  

The deceased Md Saiful Islam, 28, was a resident of Charshahi village under Chandraganj police station in Lakshmipur and posted at Hatiya police station of Noakhali.

Locals said they spotted the body floating along the riverbank in Darbesh Bazar area of the Island and informed police.

Officer-in-Charge of Hatiya police station AKM Azmal Huda said the body was washed ashore by the tide.

So far, 35 people have been rescued while the death toll stands at three, he said, adding that a Rohingya child named Tamim is still missing.

On Saturday, the trawler carrying 39 people, including police, Ansar members, Rohingya patients, and NGO workers, left Bhasan Char for Ali Bazar Ghat in Hiron union.

About 7–8 km into the journey, the trawler sank near Dubarchar due to inclement weather. - UNB
