3 of a family crushed under truck in Dhaka

Three members of a family including an engineering university student were killed after being hit by a speeding truck in Uttara area of Dhaka early Sunday.


The deceased were identified as Amit ,23, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology and his relatives  Naimul Haque ,32, an employee at a private firm, and Javed Alam Khan 55.

The trio was standing on the roadside at Azampur intersection under Uttara East Police Station around 2 am when the stone-laden truck from Mymensingh ran over them, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station Md Golam Mostafa.

Two of them died on the spot while the third was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the OC said.

The bodies were kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

 The victims were returning home after visiting a patient at a nearby hospital, reports UNB. 

The truck was seized and its driver Rakibul Islam was detained, the OC added.
