Four burned in gas cylinder explosion in Dhaka's Vatara

Dhaka, July 3 --Four people, including three members of a family, sustained burns in a gas cylinder explosion near Nurer Chala Primary School in Vatara police station area in Dhaka on Wednesday.

They are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The victims are Halim Sheikh (50) , his wife Shiuli Begum (45), their son Hanif Sheikh (24), and Rahima Begum (50), all residents of Nurer Chala area.

Sagar, a relative of the victims who transported them to the hospital, said that the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when a family member lit a stove for cooking, resulting in an explosion and fire. The injured were brought to the hospital at 9:20 p.m.

Dr Md Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the institute's emergency department, said that both the father and son suffered extensive burns. They are being treated at the emergency department. - UNB
