Two city corporation cleaners including a woman were killed after being hit by a covered van in Khilkhet area of the capital early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ashraf Ali, 60, hailed from Sherpur and Nehar Begum, 40, hailed from Naogaon.

A Dhaka-bound covered van ran them around 4:45am on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near the Bonorupa area when the victims were cleaning the road, leaving them dead on the spot, said Ruhul Amin, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Khilkhet Police Station.

Both were employed as cleanliness workers but it was not confirmed yet whether they were under any outsourcing company or under the Dhaka North City Corporation, police said.

Police later seized the vehicle and detained its driver Abul Kashem, reports UNB.

Officer-in-Charge of Khilkhet Police Station Sajjad said the bodies will be sent for autopsy.
