Businessman killed in truck accident in Narsingdi

A grocery shop owner was killed after a goods-laden truck hit a battery-powered van in Belabo upazila of the district this morning.


The deceased was identified as Alkas Mia, 55, son of late Shahid Mia, of Mollah Bari in Noakandi village under Narayanpur Union.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place around 7am at Darikandi Bus Stand on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, while Alkas was returning from Baraicha market with goods on a battery-powered van. A Bhairab-bound truck hit the van from behind, killing him on the spot, reports BSS.

Sub-Inspector Md Rokonuzzaman of Bhairab Highway Police Station said police recovered the body and seized the truck. "Legal action is underway," he added.
