One person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup in the capital's Kantabon area on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Ekram Hossain, 42, a demolition worker and passenger of the pickup. He was a resident of the Mirbazar area in Pubail, Gazipur.

The injured were the pickup driver Masud Rana, 42, and his son Salman, 16. Both were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

Police said the pickup was returning to Dhaka from Pubail after unloading demolition materials when it collided head-on with a speeding truck at the Kantabon intersection.

All three were injured in the crash. Ekram was taken to DMCH in critical condition where doctors declared him dead, said DMCH Police Camp Inspector Md Faruk, reports BSS.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said the truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle after the accident.
