Five people, including a child, were injured after a truck hit two battery-run rickshaws in the capital’s Mouchak area on Friday afternoon.

The accident took place around 4:15 pm at the Mouchak point.

The injured were identified as Nurul Haque Hadi, Eva Akter, rickshaw pullers Tariqul and Faridul Islam, and an unidentified child.

Police and witnesses said a truck of Chinese Sino Hydro Company (Chattogram Metro Sha-11-12117) coming from Malibagh Railgate lost control after its brakes failed and hit a rickshaw in front. The rickshaw was crushed under the truck.

The speeding truck then hit another rickshaw, leaving its driver injured.

The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Pedestrians rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, reports UNB.

The child, who suffered a broken leg, was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

An officer of Mouchak traffic police box confirmed the incident.
