443 killed in accidents during Eid journey

As many as 443 people died in 402 accidents across Bangladesh in 15 days between April 26 and May 10.



As many as 443 people died in 402 accidents across Bangladesh in 15 days between April 26 and May 10, travelling to or from their family homes during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare platform, disclosed this at a press briefing on Thursday.
Placing the report the press briefing at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the city, Jatri Kalyan Samity Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said a total of 145 people died in 164 motorcycle accidents, which is 44.08 percent of the total fatalities.
At least 416 people were killed and 844 injured in 372 road accidents while travelling during Eid journey, he said.
Apart from road accidents, 27 people were killed and 24 injured in 14 waterway and train accidents, he said.
