Two workers were killed and another was seriously injured when a pickup truck overturned and fell into a roadside ditch on the Asambasti-Kaptai road in the district town last night.

The injured worker, Binoy Chakma, 35, is currently undergoing treatment at Rangamati General Hospital.

The accident occurred around 11:30 pm in the Kamilachhari Mogban area under Kotwali Police Station.

According to police source, the mini pickup was heading toward Kaptai carrying tree trunks when it lost control while climbing a steep slope in the Kamilachhari area. The vehicle rolled backward into a deep roadside ditch and overturned, crushing the workers under the load of timber and the vehicle.

Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, taking them to Rangamati General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared Sadek Chakma and Milan Chakma dead.
