At least 15 passengers were injured when a passenger bus overturned on the Rangpur-Bogura Highway at Pantapara area under Gobindaganj upazila of the district this morning.

Police said the accident occurred when the driver of a Kurigram-bound bus, Mamun Express, coming from Dhaka lost control of the steering, causing the vehicle to overturn on the highway. As a result, 15 passengers were trapped inside the bus.

On receiving information, highway police and Fire Service rushed to the spot, rescued the injured passengers and sent them to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

In-charge of Gobindaganj Fire Service Station Masud Rana said the accident was initially suspected to have been caused by the driver's drowsiness, though the matter is under investigation.

Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station Mojaffar Rahman said traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident but returned to normal after the rescue operation was completed, reports BSS.
