A couple riding a motorcycle were killed in a road accident in Shivalaya upazila of Manikganj on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as village doctor Monayem Khan, 50, and his wife Josna Akhter, 45.

The accident occurred in the Badalgail bus stand area on the Dhaka–Aricha highway in the afternoon.

Harun Or Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badalgail Highway Police Station, said Monayem Khan was travelling to his village home in Faridpur from the Dakshinkhan area of Dhaka on a motorcycle with his wife.

When they reached the Badalgail area, a bus hit the motorcycle while overtaking a pickup, leaving Monayem Khan dead on the spot.

Josna Akhter was taken to Manikganj District Sadar Hospital with critical injuries, where she later died while undergoing treatment.

The OC said the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue and the victims’ relatives have been informed.

Police have seized the pickup, while efforts are underway to identify the bus involved in the accident. Legal action is being taken in this regard, reports UNB.
