The government is formulating a new visa policy by revising the existing framework introduced in 2006, aiming to simplify the entry and exit of foreign nationals, attract foreign investment and boost tourism.

A draft of the proposed Visa Policy 2026 was presented at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

To further review and refine the draft, the cabinet formed a committee headed by the finance minister.

The proposed policy aims to establish a modern, efficient and service-oriented immigration system.

Its key objectives include ensuring a smoother and more disciplined entry and exit process for foreign nationals, attracting foreign investment, business and skilled professionals, and promoting the country’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

The policy also seeks to facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, maintain national security and diplomatic balance, and manage international travel based on the principle of reciprocity.

The Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee during the review and finalisation of the draft policy.
