
Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began his official activities at Bangabhaban on Sunday, marking his first working day at the presidential palace since taking the oath of office.
The President arrived at Bangabhaban at around 11:00am and was welcomed at Gate-2 by a smartly dressed mounted police contingent.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) later accorded him a guard of honour at the Credential Field.
Following the ceremony, President Fakhrul was welcomed with bouquets at the Octagonal of Bangabhaban by his Military Secretary Major General ASM Bahauddin, Public Division Secretary AJM Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam and PGR Commander Brig Gen Golam Arikul Alam.
The President then proceeded to his office to attend his scheduled official engagements.
Mirza Fakhrul was sworn in as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on Friday evening at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, cabinet members and hundreds of distinguished guests attended the oath-taking ceremony, which began at 7:30pm.
Fakhrul was elected President on August 20, defeating his lone rival, Col (retd) Oli Ahmad, who contested as the candidate of the 11-party opposition alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
