The government is going to import 25,000 metric tonnes of sugar from the international market.

The government is going to import 25,000 metric tonnes of sugar from the international market.
To import this amount of sugar through direct purchase method (DPM), the government will spend 128 crore 40 lakh taka.
The price of sugar per kg will be lower by Tk 20 as compared to the local market.
It is known that the import price of per kg sugar will be Tk 51.36. But the price of this sugar in the local market can reach Tk 92.65 due to the transportation cost of TCB.
At present, the average price of sugar per kg in the local market is Tk 112.50. So, the price per kg of sugar can decrease by Tk 19. 85, according to sources in the Ministry of Commerce.
