Economist Anis Chowdhury made special assistant to CA

Dhaka, Mar 10 - Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, an economics professor better known as Anis Chowdhury, has been appointed as a special assistant to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

Dr. Anisuzzaman has been appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the rank of a state minister, it said. That means he will get the salary and other benefits equivalent to the rank of a state minister.

He has also been given executive powers at the Ministry of Finance.

Anis Chowdhury migrated to Australia in 1987, and pursued a career teaching economics at the University of New England, and the University of Western Sydney. He also had a spell at the University of Singapore.

He also worked for 8 years at the UN Secretariat, which began and ended at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) in New York. - UNB
