Magura, Jan 25 – Miscreants have chopped down 52 mango trees in the premises of Baliadanga Hafezia and Orphanage Madrasha at Baliadanga village in Sadar upazila of the district, the head of the institution said on Tuesday.

Firoz Ahmed, super of Baliadanga Hafezia and Madrasha, said he noticed the trees, some of them in flowers, felled to the ground as he, along with Madrasha students, came out of a mosque after saying fazr prayer.

The miscreants felled the trees sometime after midnight under the cover of darkness when staff and students of the madrasha were asleep, he said.

He demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the tree felling.

Manjurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said “We have got a written complaint about tree felling and legal steps will be taken after investigation.”

The miscreants who did this deserve punishment for not only causing financial loss to the Madrassa but also for harming the environment and - UNB
