Bountiful production of Winter Vegetables in Ramu Upazila

Vegetables are nature's treasure trove of nutrition, essential for our health and well-being. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, they strengthen our immune system, improve digestion, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Vegetables are a cornerstone of sustainable diets, as they require fewer resources to produce than animal-based foods. Vegetables cultivation also creates income generating opportunities.

In Bangladesh, winter is a season of abundant fresh vegetables. This year after a long rainy season, the weather turned favorable for growing vegetables. In Ramu Upazila, bountiful vegetables (mainly early sown) have been successfully produced on 773 hectares of land out of targeted 1359 hectares. The target of vegetables production is well accomplishing. Among the vegetables grown include cabbage, cauliflower, radish, brinjal, okra, spinach, etc.

It may be mentioned that Ramu this year witnessed a bumper production of Aman paddy. The Upazila agriculture Office regularly helps the farmers of Ramu by offering free seeds, pesticides undewr different projects plus practical extension services.

Meanwhile, most farmers expect that the market price of fertilizers should be reduced for bringing home more harvest of vegetables.
