SAU Outreach Program Imparts Training to Farmers

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Outreach Program of SAU organized a training program for farmers in the flood-prone areas of Comilla.

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University(SAU), Dhaka  has taken an  initiative to   connect with marginalized farmers through the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) outreach program, aimed at promoting integrated farming and fostering entrepreneurship. 

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Outreach Program of SAU organized a training program in the flood-prone areas of Comilla. A total of 42 male and female farmers of Burichang Upazila participated in the training program.

The program focused on agricultural rehabilitation in post-flood conditions and emphasized innovative cultivation techniques, such as floating gardens, saline-resistant crops, alternative fish farming, etc. It was organized with the support of the university’s outreach program titled "Comprehensive Agricultural Practices."

Earlier, as part of post-flood rehabilitation efforts, farmers in the affected areas were provided free rice seedlings, vegetable seeds, chicks, fertilizers, pesticides, and fish fry.

The program which held in four sessions was presided over by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Zamshed Alam, Director, Outreach Program while SAU Vice Chancellor Prof, Dr. Md. Abdul Latif attended as the chief guest.  Pro VC Prof. Dr. Belal Hossain and Treasurer Prof. Md. Abul Basher were present as special guests.

Vice Chancellor  Prof. Md. Abdul Latif appreciated the initiative of the SAU Outreach Program and expressed his hope that more such program will be undertaken in the future towards ensuring agricultural development of the country. 

Prof. Zamshed Alam highlighted the different aspects of creating entrepreneurs in agriculture sector.  The sessions were addressed by among others, Associate Director of Outreach Prof. Dr. Muhammad Humayun Kabir, SAU Students Advisor Prof. Dr. Md. Ashabul Haque, Upazila Agriculture Officer Afrina Akter, Upazila Livestock Extension Officer Dr. Md. Abu Raihan of  Burichang Upazila.

The event also included practical demonstrations and field-based activities conducted by local agricultural officers. The success of this initiative is a testament to the collaboration between the university and local administration.
