Manikganj has witnessed bumper onion production during the current season, with the highest harvest recorded in three out of seven upazilas of the district.

A total of 125,864.5 metric tons of onions have been harvested in the district, significantly surpassing the cultivation target, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Earlier, sources from the DAE had stated that the target for onion cultivation this year was set at 7,035 hectares of land, with a production goal of 117,062 metric tons across the district's seven upazilas. However, onions were cultivated on 7,564 hectares, yielding 125,864.5 metric tons-8,802.5 metric tons more than the target.

The sources also mentioned that most of the onions are grown in three upazilas of the district-Harirampur, Shibalaya, and Ghior, reports BSS.

Farmers in Manikganj highlighted that onion is one of their main cash crops. The quality of the onions in this region is excellent, and they are supplied to various parts of the country, including the capital city, Dhaka.
