A remarkable painting by renowned Bangladeshi artist Zainul Abedin, often celebrated as 'Shilpacharya,' sold for a record-breaking $692,048 on September 26. This sale marks the highest price ever achieved for a work by a Bangladeshi artist.

The auction, held by the prestigious Sotheby's in New York, featured Abedin's "Untitled," a piece gifted by the artist to Cedomil Plazek. The artwork, created in 1970, is described as ink and wash on paper and is signed and dated by Abedin, with his stamp located in the lower right corner.

Sotheby's, with nearly 300 years of history, organized this auction as part of its "Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art" series, where several works reached record prices, underscoring the growing appreciation for South Asian art on the global stage.
