Dhaka, Feb 1 – Sabina Yasmin, the iconic and popular Bangladeshi singer who was reportedly collapsed in the middle of her musical performance on Friday night which marked her glorious live performance comeback after a year of emergency hiatus, has been shifted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at a city hospital in the capital.

She was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but later moved to the HDU as her condition improved.

However, music artist Jahangir Sayeed on Saturday confirmed in a Facebook post that contrary to media reports, the eminent singer did not collapse during the program, which was a special tribute event by the HSBC Bank at the Grand Ballroom in the capital’s Hotel Sheraton, marking her stage return.

The legendary artiste experienced a brief health issue, clarified Jahangir Sayeed in the post, urging media outlets to refrain from publishing unverified information.

The private event, organized exclusively by HSBC Bank, was graced by the 70-year-old singer performing for an audience of esteemed guests. Despite battling vertigo and being a cancer survivor, Sabina Yasmin accepted the invitation and delivered a soulful performance.

Sayeed explained that during the program, Yasmin performed approximately 10 songs and captivated the audience with her melodious voice and engaging presentations. However, due to a sudden drop in blood pressure, coupled with her vertigo condition, she momentarily lost balance and accidentally grabbed a lyrics stand for support, which could not hold her, causing the artist to fall on stage.

"Sabina Yasmin is a two-time cancer survivor and also has health issues including high blood pressure and diabetes. Her courage to perform in such a prestigious event, despite her health challenges, is commendable," Sayeed wrote.

The singer was promptly taken to a hospital, where doctors conducted thorough examinations and confirmed no major issues. She returned home the same night but experienced discomfort around 4:30 am on Saturday and was admitted again, first in the ICU and then shifted to the HDU, for observation.

Later on Saturday afternoon, a seven-member specialized medical board confirmed that her condition was stable and attributed the incident to temporary weakness caused by the imbalance of her blood pressure and slightly elevated blood sugar levels.

As of now, Sabina Yasmin is reportedly in good health, Jahangir Sayeed confirmed in the post. She has expressed gratitude to her fans and well-wishers for their prayers and support, requesting continued blessings for her recovery.

Her fans and admirers across the nation have joined together in wishing the iconic artiste a swift and complete recovery. - UNB
