Witness to the Uprising Photo Show by Jibon Ahmed opened at AFD on Thursday 7 Aug 2025.

The photo exhibition Witness to the Uprising by photojournalist Jibon Ahmed has begun at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi.

The exhibition showcases powerful and moving photographs that document one of the most pivotal and challenging moments in recent Bangladeshi history. Drawn from Jibon Ahmed’s book Witness to the Uprising, the images tell the story of the July 2024 uprising — a period marked by widespread protest, resistance, and political turmoil.

The book, jointly published by University Press Limited (UPL) and Netra News, and edited by Mashruk Ahmed, features over 170 striking photographs alongside personal journal entries. Captured while working under dangerous conditions — often in hiding — Jibon Ahmed’s images offer a raw, firsthand perspective of a nation in upheaval.

This exhibition underscores the vital role of photojournalism in documenting truth and preserving history, particularly in moments of crisis. It pays tribute to those who risk their safety to bear witness and share untold stories through the lens.
