Alliance Française de Dhaka cordially invites you to the opening of A Drawing Room by Hridita Anisha, a whimsical, nostalgic and emotive exhibition of drawings and illustrations on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 at 6 pm at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi

After the opening ceremony the exhibition will be open till Wednesday, 17 September 2025. The exhibition is open to all Monday to Saturday from 3 pm to 9 pm.

About the Exhibition: A Drawing Room is an exhibition by emerging artist Hridita Anisha, in which she tenderly evokes the nostalgic landscapes of her childhood, where cats, fishes, and fantastical creatures once roamed freely. This whimsical and emotive showcase of drawings and illustrations invites visitors into a living, breathing space of creativity. Throughout the exhibition, Anisha will draw directly onto the gallery walls while interacting with children and adults from the audience to join her with their own marks and musings. The audience will be invited as guests into a simple world where you only know how to draw a few things : the sun, a hut, a bird, a cat, a fish, all symbols that simple lines can make. More than a display, A Drawing Room stay very literal in every way, it is the room that ought to be about drawing and also the first place a child could display their work.  Hridita will be present every day and actively participate with the audience while she makes artwork both on paper and on the walls, thus making the exhibition a growing and living display that changes a little every day until it draws to its ending. The walls of La Galerie will bear her illustrations, some fully realised, others left deliberately unfinished, awaiting the joyful intervention of visiting children. This exhibition promises to be an unprecedented celebration of shared imagination and artistic play.

“A Drawing Room” is both an invitation and a celebration — welcoming children and the child within every adult to rediscover the spontaneity and joy of uninhibited art-making. The exhibition deliberately moves away from the constraints of functionality and utility, offering instead a space for peace, unity, happiness, and collaborative creativity.

About the Artist: Hridita Anisha, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, where she completed both her BFA (2017) and MFA (2019) in Oriental Art Department, has spent the past five years deeply immersed in researching children’s art and working with children’s book publishers. Her practice explores the intersection of child art and the naive folk traditions of Bangladesh and South Asia. – Press release
