Bangladesh Water Partnership 12th AGM held

The 12th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Bangladesh Water Partnership held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium on Saturday decided to highlight in detail in its secretary general’s report the activities of the local area water partnerships, that work on integrated water  management of in different districts.The AGM also heard suggestions to monitor the developments taking place on the rivers at upstream of Bangladesh because availability of water in the country is critically dependent on the transboundary rivers, Ganges, Brahmaputra, the Meghna and their tributaries, for being able to raise awareness and offer informed guidance to organisations and institutions operating in the water sector.
The BWP, having 126 members including 68 organisations and 58 individuals active in the water sector is primarily mandated to engage in facilitation and advocacy of integrated water resources management in the country.
Presided over by BWP president Md. Shahidul Hassan, the AGM heard and approved the secretary general Tauhidul Anwar Khan’s report and the audit report presented by vice president Khondker Azharul Haq and executive secretary Mukta Akter. Members present discussed threadbare these reports and the minutes of the last AGM held in 2013, before their adoption.
