Bangladesh Bank (BB) has announced the removal of cash withdrawal limits from banks, effective this Sunday. The move reflects improvements in the law and order situation across the country.
Bangladesh Bank Spokesman Mezbaul Haque confirmed the change to the Daily Sun, stating, "The restrictions on cash withdrawals from banks will be lifted starting next Sunday."
This decision follows a period of stringent controls introduced last month in response to a decline in law and order following the end of the autocratic Awami League regime. The previous restrictions were implemented after a series of violent clashes and unrest related to a student-led uprising, which led to temporary lapses in law enforcement duties.
On August 7, the central bank had mandated a daily cash withdrawal limit of Tk 1 lakh per account. Last week, the limit was further reduced to Tk 5 lakh per account, down from Tk 4 lakh the week before.
The removal of these limits aims to normalize banking operations and facilitate smoother financial transactions as the situation stabilizes.
