Islamic Banks needs to ensure their growth: Dy Governor

Dhaka, Oct 08 – Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Nurun Nahar urged the Islamic banks to ensure their growth through healthy competition with conventional banking.

The BB Deputy Governor has laid emphasis on Islamic Banking side-by-side conventional banking through utilizing opportunity and coping with challenges.

She was inaugurating a research workshop on “Pricing of Islamic Banking Products in a Dual Banking Environment of Bangladesh” through zoom today (Tuesday).

Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) organized the workshop at its auditorium at Mirpur.

Presenting key-note paper at the workshop, Dr Md Mahabbat Hossain, Associate Professor of BIBM, said that a dedicated department should be formed within the Bangladesh Bank to oversee regulatory and supervisory issues related to Islamic banking.

Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Director General, BIBM, made the concluding remarks.

Among others, Mezbah Uddin Ahmed of ISRA Research Management Centre, INCEIF, Malaysia, participated in the discussion.
